Aboriginals Pen Open Letter to Chinese President

A BC First Nations group has written an open letter to Chinese President Hu Jintao as Prime Minister Stephen Harper arrives in Beijing.

The Yinka Dene Alliance says it wants to remind the Chinese leader about Canada’s record on aboriginal rights.

But the letter also warns the Chinese government about the legal uncertainty of the proposed Enbridge Northern Gateway Pipeline.

The Yinka Dene alliance says First Nations have clearly refused consent for the pipeline to cross their traditional territories.

The group says investors, including Chinese oil giant Sinopec, should not place confidence in Canada’s system to review pipeline projects until the question of aboriginal land rights is resolved.
