NaiKun Likes Gas Strategy

NaiKun Wind Energy Group sees opportunity in the BC Government’s natural gas strategy announced last week.

Premier Christy Clark says liquefied natural gas will be a cornerstone of the province’s long-term economic success, creating jobs and opportunity in the future.

But critics are concerned about the large amounts of electricity required to power two of the three plants proposed for Kitimat.

NaiKun President and CEO Michael O’Connor says the company looks forward to working with the government, coastal First Nations, and industry to develop LNG.

O’Conner says NaiKun’s proposed wind farm project off the northwest coast is at an advanced stage of development and could begin construction within two years.

The catch is that NaiKun is still waiting for an energy purchase agreement after its initial rejection by BC Hydro for a long term deal in 2010.
