NEB says yes to BC LNG Co-op
The National Energy Board has given the green light to another liquefied natural gas export licence that would see LNG shipped from Kitimat.
The national energy regulator approved a 20 year export licence to the BC LNG Export Co-operative which authorizes it to ship 36 million tonnes of liquefied natural gas primarily to Asian markets.
BC LNG is made up of a partnership between the Haisla Nation and LNG Partners of Houston, Texas.
In approving the project, the NEB noted that the Haisla will reap potential economic benefits, including an interest in the development and employment opportunities resulted from the construction and operation of the $450 million project.
The proposed terminal would be located directly across Kitimat Arm from Kitamaat Village.
This is only the second liquefied natural gas export project granted approval in Canada.
The first LNG operation granted an export licence was the Kitimat LNG project back in October of 2011.
