Prince Rupert LNG Terminal Possible?

The number of proposed and planned liquefied natural gas terminals for northern BC keeps on growing.

The Prince Rupert Port Authority announced today that it’s working with the BG Group, an international player in natural gas, about the possibility of building an LNG plant to the North Coast.

Port Authority Communications Manager Michael Gurney says the discussions are preliminary, but he says both parties are optimistic about the possibilities.

If it goes ahead, gurney says the proposed facility would be built at Ridley Island.

He says it would be a good fit, as the prospect of liquid bulk terminals is part of the port’s land use management plan circulated last year.

Gurney says the port authority and the BG Group are looking at a 12 to 24 month timeline.

The National Energy Board last week approved a second LNG export licence that would see the product exported from Kitimat.
