Province Plans to Balance Books
The BC Liberal government says it plans to balance the provincial budget next year.
Finance Minister Kevin Falcon says he predicts a $154 million surplus for 2013-2014 following a projected budget deficit of $968 million for the upcoming fiscal year.
That would allow the Liberals to run on a platform of balanced books by the time the 2013 provincial election rolls around.
Corporate income taxes may rise by one point next year to 11% if the provincial economy worsens.
MSP premiums are also going up for the fourth time in as many years with average family paying about $5 more each month.
