Sheraton Mill to Re-open in Burns Lake

The timing couldn’t be better for the re-opening of a mothballed mill near Burns Lake.

The community owned Sheraton Holdings sawmill will restart production in March after being shut down for over a year because of poor market conditions.

Sheraton President Quinten Beach says the operation should create between seven and nine full-time positions at a time when Burns Lake is still reeling from the explosion and fire at Babine Forest Products.

But Beach says the decision to start up the mill again was based on sound business principles, including improved demand for some of the operation’s products and industry developments.

Also instrumental in the restart is a low interest loan from Community Futures Nadina and an offer from Hampton Affiliates to sell Sheraton logs required for the operation.

Sheraton is accepting resumes at its Burns Lake office and representatives will also be on hand at the job fair being held Friday in Burns Lake.
